JA Projects in RA Winter Magazine

The ‘Entangled Pasts’ exhibition designers JA Projects, were asked to put together a list of recommended reads that have inspired their architectural practice. Chosen by Jayden Ali, Brian Yue and Divya Patel, from JA Projects, the titles range from James Baldwin, who helped frame this year’s British Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale to Amitav Ghosh, whose autobiographical tale tries to retrace pre-colonial networks of migration and trade across the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean.

About the exhibition

This spring, the RA brings together over 100 major contemporary and historic works as part of a conversation about art and its role in shaping narratives of empire, enslavement, resistance, abolition and colonialism – and how it may help set a course for the future.

J.M.W. Turner and Ellen Gallagher. Joshua Reynolds and Yinka Shonibare. John Singleton Copley and Hew Locke. Past and present collide in one powerful exhibition.

Entangled Pasts, 1768–now: Art, Colonialism and Change runs from 3 February - 28 April 2024
