JA Projects and collaborators shortlisted for Amsterdam’s National Slavery Museum
JA Projects – in a team alongside Bureau Bas Smets, Timoteus Anggawan Kusno, Dr Mpho Matsipa-Okoye and Dr Yanique Hume – has been shortlisted as one of ten international teams invited to progress to the next stage of the competition for Amsterdam's National Slavery Museum.
Located at the western tip of Java Island in Amsterdam, the brand news museum will provide a place for reflection, education and dialogue, recognising the Netherlands' history of slavery and its enduring legacies. While the history of transatlantic slavery forms its central point of reference, the museum will also address other histories of slavery connected to Dutch colonial networks, creating space for multiple perspectives and stories of resistance, resilience and connection.
We are honoured to be part of a process that seeks to create meaningful new ways to engage with these histories and to contribute to a cultural institution dedicated to remembrance, understanding and dialogue.
